On May 20 we invite you to a screening of the Oscar-winning film Amour (original title: Amour) by contemporary master director Michael Haneke.
What is the film about?
This is not a melodrama, but a restrained and uncompromising drama about love without romantic embellishment. Georges and Anne have spent their lives side by side, in constant mutual care. They are now in their eighties. Anne’s life begins to slowly fade: first her memory starts to fail, then her body gradually loses its strength. Refusing their daughter’s suggestion to move her into a nursing home, Georges quits his teaching job at the conservatory and dedicates himself entirely to caring for his beloved wife. But what does it mean to love when every day becomes a challenge for both of them? And where is the line between devotion and the cruelty of mercy?
The film shows how love, care, and dignity are tested by everyday life and irreversible change.
Director Michael Haneke works in his signature style: precise staging, long takes, and a refusal to “guide” the viewer. That is why the emotional impact arises not from melodrama, but from the precision of observation.
