Join us for the original workshop “Freedom in Music: The Anatomy of Improvisation.”
Improvisation is not a mystical gift reserved for a chosen few—it is a language that can be learned, understood, and developed. Many musicians who are confident sight-readers find themselves at a loss the moment the written score ends. This workshop is designed to break the fear of playing the “wrong” note and provide practical tools for creating music in real time.
Together, we will explore improvisation from multiple perspectives—from mindset and creative confidence to advanced rhythmic and technical concepts.
Workshop program:
The Psychology of Free Playing — Learn how to silence your inner critic, embrace mistakes as part of the creative process, and become comfortable with silence and musical space.
Rhythm as the Foundation — Develop a deeper sense of pulse and groove. Discover how elements of the Indian vocal percussion tradition konnakol can generate complex yet intuitive rhythmic ideas that can be applied to any instrument.
The Architecture of a Solo — Learn how to tell a compelling musical story using just a few notes. Explore motifs, sequencing, phrasing, and musical breathing, drawing inspiration from jazz fusion and minimalism.
The Electroacoustic Dimension — Improvisation extends far beyond acoustic instruments. We’ll examine creative approaches to improvising in Ableton Live and Logic Pro, including real-time sound manipulation, looping techniques, and expressive performance with MPE technology.
