On October 24, Karol Filo will lead a workshop for artists who are interested in documentary methods and in the political nature of reality, emotions, and relationships.
October 24
10:00–13:00 — workshop
14:00–16:00 — individual consultations for selected projects
124 B. Khmelnytskoho St., Novo1 Hall
The workshop is limited to 15 participants (registration closes once the group is full). There are 4 spots for individual consultations.
About the workshop
The workshop is open to artists of any level who are interested in documentary methods and in the political nature of reality, emotions, and relationships. We will look at the tools of documentary and political practice and its ethics. We will talk about what constitutes a subject of politics and a subject of propaganda, and what it means to document: to enter a situation, to enter into a relationship with the material, and to become aware of the artist’s power and responsibility.
We will work with the following questions:
— What is needed and urgent right now?
— To whom am I ethically responsible, and to whom am I not?
— What is the difference between performance, affects, and statements on stage and in life?
— What is representation as opposed to presentation?
The program combines an analysis of the performance “The Good Times Are Over,” a lecture on ethics, power, and affect in documentary work, and practical exercises.
Requirements for participation
— attending the performance “The Good Times Are Over” on October 23 at 19:00
— a notebook
— a phone with a voice recorder
— a laptop (optional)
Working language of the workshop: Ukrainian.
Individual consultations (4 × 25 min)
If you would like to consult on your own project, you can do so in an individual meeting with Karol lasting 25 minutes. In the registration form, fill in the field describing your project and attach any materials you would like to share in advance, so that the consultation time can be used effectively.
We can select 4 projects for consultations. Confirmation of participation in a consultation will be sent closer to the date of the workshop.
