About the Film

The film captures the now almost unknown Kyiv of 1929, although several scenes were also shot in Kharkiv. Images of the city awakening and returning to life echo lyrical scenes of nature’s renewal.

Kaufman’s attentive camera lingers on the smiling faces of the city’s residents, creating a lyrical cinematic declaration of love for Kyiv.

The screening is part of The History of Cinema in Ukraine programme, curated by Daria Badior and Sofia Doroshenko.
