TicketsShekBand, a youth band from Kyiv, enchants listeners with Contemporary Jazz from the first chords. On August 25, ShekBand is ready to impress with their immense talent, spontaneity, and incredible emotion! Let’s introduce the band:
Artem, Anna, and Maksym—a family trio—first played together in June 2015 at the Jazz Summer Camp in Bulgaria. They filled their first hall at the October Palace in Kyiv when the oldest member of the trio was only 18! These young musicians study in the Jazz Composition and Improvisation Department at Kyiv’s Children’s Music School No. 4 under the guidance of Oleksii Proshchenkov, a Merited Cultural Worker of Ukraine.
ShekBand has performed on many prestigious stages both in Ukraine and abroad. To date, they have won and participated in over 50 prestigious jazz competitions and festivals, including Jazz Fontanas Panevėžys, 7 Virtual Jazz Club Contest, Odesa Jazz Fest, Leopolis Jazz, EuropaFest Bucharest, Vinnytsia Jazz Fest, Adria Fest, and more.
This year, ShekBand made it to the finals of two of the most renowned European jazz competitions, where Ukraine will be represented for the first time: the XXXII concours Européen Tremplin Jazz d’Avignon 2024, taking place on July 31 – August 1, 2024, in Avignon, France; and the international festival “Jazz in the Park Competition,” which was held on July 5-7 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Among 246 bands from 39 countries, ShekBand won the award for The Best Composition, and trio member Anna Shekera, pianist, received the award as a Remarkable Musician!
ShekBand recorded their first album, “The Inflatable Ram,” the day before the war began. It was released on April 29, 2022, on all digital platforms, with the support of HGBSBlue Label Black Forest Records, Germany, and Taklit Editions & Productions Agency, France.
The music performed by ShekBand impresses for many reasons. It is a unique vision of contemporary jazz: a search for a new language and individuality while also drawing on the traditions of great masters of the past.
