At the event, Borys Filonenko, Oleksandra Kushchenko, Anna-Maria Kucherenko, Yevheniia Nesterovych, Bozhena Pelenska, and Khrystyna Rutar will share more about the creation of the book that opens the Jam Factory Art Center and ist publishing’s new publishing series.
“Sustaining the Conversation” is a collection of essays about the changes that have taken place within us since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, about transformations in artistic practices, and reflections that arise within the context of art during wartime.
The authors’ texts are written as a dialogue with the exhibition “Our Years, Our Words, Our Losses, Our Searches, Our Us,” which was the first exhibition and part of the opening of the Jam Factory Art Center in 2023.
The book extends the experience of the exhibition, capturing important stories and observations about the interdependence of visual images and texts, art communities, the emotions accompanying artistic projects, the role of individuals and their portraits, and the empty spaces in the long history of Ukrainian art. The publication also includes photo documentation of the exhibition, artists’ works, selected excerpts from discussions in the parallel program, and a conversation with the curatorial team following the exhibition’s close.
This is the first book in the Jam Factory Art Center and ist publishing series, realized in partnership with the ZMIN Foundation.
The book will be available for purchase at the art center’s reception after the presentation or online at istpublishing.org.
