Film Screening: Ukrainian New Wave. Drawing Closer

On 14 October at 18:30, Jam Factory Art Center will screen Ukrainian New Wave. Drawing Closer — a selection of six short films by emerging Ukrainian filmmakers, curated by the Dovzhenko Centre.

How do we love and build new connections in a society traumatised by war? This year’s anthology brings together stories of intimacy, loneliness, memory, and the search for home. The selection features student films and debuts that have already earned recognition at Ukrainian and international festivals.

Programme

It’s All Over Now — directed by Liza Ihnatieva
Warm childhood memories of Nova Kakhovka — a city that, since the arrival of war, can only be preserved as it once was in memory.

Kitty and Doggy Look for a Home — directed by Heorhii Hohatadze
Two best friends watch cartoons and eat cereal with milk together, until a flood sweeps through their home.

Natural Balance — directed by Oleksandr Myroniuk
A documentary filmmaker searches for a subject for his film about loneliness. Getting to know an older man gradually changes his understanding of his own project.

Shrimps, a Switch, a Bull-Calf and a Little Bottle — directed by Olha Vitenko
Two sisters’ nighttime journey becomes a surreal passage through memory, loss, and the search for joy in life.

Prelude — directed by Alina Panasenko
Anna secretly films men on the streets of wartime Kyiv. Her search for a one-night encounter leads to an unexpected meeting with a serviceman.

Curfew — directed by Yelyzaveta Toptyhina
A photographer fails to make it back to the city and meets a stranger at a bus stop. With curfew approaching, they spend the night at a roadside hotel.
