About the film
The story unfolds in a remote Icelandic village, amid the harsh landscapes of wild nature and the quiet beauty of everyday life. A former couple tries to adapt to a new reality after their separation. Magnús works as a fisherman on an industrial trawler, while Anna is an artist. They are no longer together, yet they continue to raise their three children jointly. Magnús cannot come to terms with the changes in their relationship and longs to win Anna back, while she is striving to finally realize herself as an artist. Along this path, the characters experience a full range of emotions — from pain and confusion to laughter, tenderness, and love.
Director
The film is directed by Hlynur Pálmason, an Icelandic filmmaker, screenwriter, and visual artist widely regarded as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Icelandic cinema. His style is marked by meditative pacing and an impressionistic approach, balancing artistry with minimalism. Pálmason also served as the film’s cinematographer, shooting it on 35mm film. The cast includes two of his sons, Grímur and Torgils Hlynsson, as well as an Icelandic sheepdog named Panda.
