On March 18, we are screening the drama “The Blue Trail” — a story about emancipation, presented as a dystopia set in the near future.
About the film
Brazil, near future. The government relocates elderly people to isolated colonies so that the younger generation can focus on productivity and development. Teresa, nearly 80 years old, decides to challenge the system. Instead of accepting her fate, she sets out on a journey through the Amazon to fulfill one last wish before losing her freedom.
This is a drama about emancipation framed through a dystopian lens: society segregates older adults by sending them to reservations. Teresa refuses to live by imposed rules and strives to live life on her own terms. During her surreal journey through the Amazon, she encounters strange characters — and, most importantly, discovers herself.
Older protagonists rarely take center stage on the big screen, and when they do, they are often portrayed tragically. Gabriel Mascaro breaks this stereotype, presenting Teresa as determined, sharp, and agentive.
