Lecture-workshop by Alya Segal on writing a last will and working with artistic legacy

As part of the accompanying program of the exhibition “Looking into the Gaps IV,” Jam Factory Art Center invites you to a lecture-workshop by Alya Segal on writing a last will and working with artistic legacy.

April 5, 2026, 3 pm
Jam factory Art Center, Lviv, 124 B. Khmelnytskyi St., Novo 1 Реєстрація

The event is dedicated to the Ukrainian experience of working with artistic legacy—its specific features, challenges, and possible development strategies. We will discuss how this experience differs from the international context, look at examples of public collections, estates, and institutions that work with artists’ legacies, and outline potential risks and “pitfalls” in this field.

A separate section will focus on the case of the first year of the Marharyta Polovinko Estate, as an example of building a structure for managing the legacy of an artist who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The practical part of the event will include a workshop on describing and systematizing artworks: how to build an archive, create certificates of authenticity, and prepare museum reports. The program will conclude with a consultation session with a lawyer dedicated to the legal aspects of working with artistic legacy.
