New York, 1950s. Therese, a young saleswoman, meets Carol — a confident and attractive woman trapped in a loveless marriage. An immediate connection and ease develop between them, and their friendship quickly grows into something deeper. Carol takes a bold step, freeing herself from the constraints of her marriage, but her husband attempts to question her competence as a mother upon discovering her closeness with Therese and her friend Abby.

The film is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel “The Price of Salt” (1953) and portrays not only the beauty of feelings but also the injustice of the era toward lesbian relationships. “Carol” can be considered a feminist film: it tells the story of a woman who dares to be herself and explores love that changes lives. The film also features LGBT themes, presented with subtlety and depth.
