One of the events of the 31st edition of the Contrasts Festival, which has been organized for many years by the Lviv National Philharmonic, will take place at the Jam Factory Art Center.
The 31st edition does not aim to sum things up or draw final conclusions. The festival’s final event is not an end, but rather a new beginning—glimpsed just beyond the finish line—as the young generation of Ukrainian composers takes the stage.
The concert will feature compositions by students and teachers of the Composition Department at the Lviv Mykola Lysenko National Music Academy, created for flute, clarinet, and electronics.
The spirit of creative experimentation, the excitement of debuts, warm mutual support, and a vibrant, eager curiosity—these are the elements that make the annual student concerts at Contrasts so magnetic.
“The moment when a composer hears their work performed live is always deeply emotional. It’s the instant when musical ideas that once swirled in someone’s mind come to life and take on a clear sonic form. This is a kind of revelation along the path of artistic growth for all composers, regardless of age, experience, or renown. And for young artists, such a moment holds even greater significance. Concerts like this—where seasoned professional performers bring to life works by young composers—are not only a chance for audiences to share in this intimate experience, but also a crucial factor in supporting and developing new Ukrainian music.”
